Of course, it did happen, and it's still happening. And some of Summerfest's biggest names - including Dave Chappelle, Chris Stapleton and Guns N' Roses - played for packed, passionate crowds, as if the COVID-19 pandemic never happened.
Sure, some musicians played for sparse audiences, but most of them just seemed thrilled to play music again for any audience. You could feel it every day at the country's largest music festival. Live music, and celebrating life together, was healing.īut no one needed to say a thing. We heard it over and over at Summerfest 2021, from Miley Cyrus, Zac Brown, Dave Matthews, Luke Bryan and other big stars.
